I mean, look at it!

We use the gorgeous, glass handled Chemex (available from our Shop)

Here is our guide on how to use it!

Firstly - What you will need:

A Chemex

Chemex Filter paper

Coffee (Medium/finely ground)

Kettle

Scales / measuring apparatus

Step 1- The Filter

Pop your filter paper into the Chemex, the thicket side should be near the spout. (This prevents the paper from tearing)

Step 2 - The Rinse

Now we rinse the filter paper with boiling water - this removes the paper taste and gets your Chemex nice & warm. Discard the water, pouring it gently from the spout. We like to warm up our mugs with hot water too!

Step 3 - The Grind

Spoon around 45 grams of ground coffee and place it in the filter. We recommend Medium-Finely ground beans (You can get your coffee pre-ground for Chemex from our ,store)

Gently tap the sides of your Chemex to settle the grounds to a flat bed.

Step 4 - The Bloom

Gently pour in 80 grams of boiling water

Pour the water in circular motions from the outside of the filter towards the centre. This will saturate the coffee

Step 5 - The Stir

Gently stir, make sure that all of the grounds are wet, and wait 60-90 seconds.

This allows carbon dioxide bubbles to be released from the coffee.

Step 6 - The Pour

Pour the remainder of the water in, we do this in 3 batches of 240 grams, in a circular pattern. Your total should be 800g (including the bloom)

Pour slowly, trying not to disturb the coffee grounds too much.

Step 7- The Last Bit

Nearly done.. Lift out your filter paper, give the Chemex a good (gentle) swirl to mix & aerate the coffee, and enjoy!

And thats it, your beautiful Chemex is full of delicious coffee! This method will make you look like a total pro - and your guests will think you're fancy

<![CDATA[What is the best milk for coffee?]]>http://www.pottscoffee.co.uk/post/what-is-the-best-milk-for-coffee5eb2deb19c2faf0017a24a82Fri, 08 May 2020 11:40:02 GMTDanielle Almond, Oat, Soy, Coconut, Hazelnut, Hemp, Rice, Pea, Cashew, Flax?

THERE ARE SO MANY dairy alternatives! What is the best?

Well, here are our top 4:

1. Oat Milk

Our fave - its creamy, its delicious, its amazing in coffee.

But why?

Taste: We love to use oat milk in our coffee as the fat content is far lower than Cow’s milk and therefore doesn’t mask the aromas and flavours of the coffee, whilst being high enough in fat to create the smooth and creamy texture that we all love.

Oat milk is also one of the more eco-friendly plant based milks

Health benefits: Slightly higher in sugar than other dairy alternatives, due to it being made from carbohydrate. Some are fortified with calcium or vitamins. Our favourite is Minor Figures!

2. Coconut Milk

Tropical, yum!

Taste: This tropical plant milk packs a lot of flavor and is a great addition to coffee.

Health Benefits: pretty low in calories & it’s a good source of calcium and B & D vitamins

3. Soy

Taste: Classic Soy milk, its a great allrounder. Soy has a creamy texture, when steamed it is super foamy, which makes a great cappuccino.

Heath Benefits: High in protein, and low in sugars and fats. Many brands are also fortified with other vitamins too!

4. Almond

Sweet & flavourful

Taste: Almond milk is creamy & gives a gorgeous marzipan taste to coffee which compliments it beautifully.

Health Benefits: Low in calories but slightly higher in sugars. Naturally, Almonds contain vitamin E - which supports a healthy immune system!

<![CDATA[Brewing Guides: AeroPress]]>http://www.pottscoffee.co.uk/post/manage-your-blog-from-your-live-site5eb295eceb9d5200176f0727Wed, 06 May 2020 10:48:12 GMTDanielle The AeroPress is a sophisticated yet simple coffee innovation. It’s a super simple way to make barista quality coffee in an instant.

The AeroPress is lightweight, durable and easy to clean, so it’s perfect for your kitchen or for travel, whether you’re going away or going to work. For us, this is a staple in our daily routine! It's practical, versatile and really simple to use.

The Aeropress produces a smooth, rich brew that’s like a strong filter coffee (almost espresso strength), and can have hot water added to make an Americano, or steamed milk to make a Latte.

It’s really easy to use, and your pals will think you’re a total coffee pro. You can be super experimental with Aeropress and play around with thousands of methods. And it’s one cup at a time – which means less waste and more chance to try out different brews.

Five simple parts: a plunger, a chamber, a micro-filter, a filter cap, and a stirrer.

So, what is our favourite method of brewing with an AeroPress?

We use the Inverted Method…

STEP 1 – Get your grind

A medium grind is the best choice for AeroPress, so it doesn’t slip through the filter. At Potts Coffee we sell speciality AeroPress grinds of our coffee range so we’ve got your back!

We use 15g of Medium ground coffee.

STEP 2 – Get Ready

Let's prepare – lay out your plunger, chamber, filter, filter cap, stirrer and your favourite cup or mug.

Rinse your filter paper with hot water (with it sitting in the plastic cap – not your fingers!) This will get rid of any flavours from the paper, and it helps the filter stick to the cap.

We use the Inverted Method - See photo below for how to set it up!

Using the funnel, scoop 15g of coffee into the chamber.

Level the coffee so that it is pretty flat

STEP 3 – Get Some Hot Water

We use around 80ml of water. Filtered water is recommended, but you should be able to get away with tap water (as long as it isn’t too hard). You should fill that cup with a splash or two of hot water to pre-heat it, as pouring hot coffee into a cold cup will mean it cools quicker. For the water temperature, don’t be afraid of using water straight from the kettle - it is almost impossible to burn your coffee using boiling water! See the video below for more on water temperatures!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_r5kpXPRYo

STEP 4 – Get Pouring

Pour the water in slowly. SUUUUPER slowly. Use scales to measure the volume of water, we use 80ml.

Then stir. Stir Stir Stir! Stir thoroughly for about 10-15 seconds to ensure that all of the coffee is soaked.

STEP 5 – Get Plunging

But first, we wait. Wait for 30-60 seconds to let the coffee infuse. Pop your cup over the filter cap, and flip it over.

Swirl the coffee, make sure that there are no clumps stuck to the sides of the press, and now it's time to plunge!

Gently press the plunger, slowly and smoothly, and watch the flavoursome brew fill up your cup. This should take 30-40 seconds. Remove the AeroPress and stare at the masterpiece you’ve just created. It should smell pretty delicious too!

You can then style it with hot water for an American or with steamed oat milk for a Latte

Check out our recipe for silky smooth, moisturised skin! Our DIY Coffee scrub is super easy to make and won’t cost the earth:

Why are we using coffee?

Coffee is rich in anti-oxidants, which protect the skin from free radical damage.

Anti-oxidants help to combat ageing, and coffee seed oil can help to stimulate production of collagen & elastin, which keeps the skin looking firmer for longer.

What does a scrub do?

This scrub will gently exfoliate the skin - leaving it silky and smooth, whilst the coconut oil gives a moisture boost to tired, dry skin. Its simple & effective, using no nasty ingredients and is good enough to eat! (...but I don't recommend that!)

Ingredients:

1/4 Cup Coconut Oil

1/2 Cup Ground Coffee Beans

1/4 Cup Brown Sugar

1 Tbsp Salt

1/2 Tsp Vanilla Extract

5 Drop of your favourite essential oil

Method

Super easy - throw it all into a bowl and mix until its combined
